Privacy Policy

Horology Vault is built on a simple principle: your collection data belongs to you and you alone.

This Privacy Policy explains how Horology Vault ("we", "our", "us") handles information in connection with our website and iOS application. We take privacy seriously — it isn't a feature, it's the foundation of everything we build.

1. Core Principle: Local-First by Design

Horology Vault is a local-first application. Your watch collection — every piece, every service record, every photograph, every story — is stored exclusively on your device. We do not upload, process, or retain your collection data on any external server. We cannot see it, access it, or share it, because we never receive it.

2. What We Collect on This Website

Our marketing website (horologyVault.app) is a static informational site. The only personal data we may collect is:

  • Early access email address — if you voluntarily submit your email to join the waitlist, we store it solely to notify you when the app launches. We will not use it for any other purpose without your consent.
  • Standard server logs — IP address, browser type, referring URL, and page visit timestamps. These are retained for up to 30 days for security and performance monitoring, then deleted. They are never linked to personal identities.

We do not use analytics trackers, third-party advertising pixels, or behavioral profiling tools on this website.

3. What the iOS App Collects

The Horology Vault iOS app is designed to collect nothing beyond what lives on your device:

  • No account required — there is no sign-up, no cloud sync, no profile.
  • No telemetry — we do not collect crash reports, usage analytics, or behavioral data without your explicit opt-in.
  • No network calls for your data — your collection never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it.
  • iCloud backup — if you have iCloud backup enabled on your device, iOS may include app data in your personal iCloud backup under your own Apple ID. This is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not ours.

4. Data Controller

For the limited personal data described above (waitlist emails), the data controller is Horology Vault. For questions or requests, contact us at:

5. Legal Basis for Processing

We process waitlist email addresses on the basis of your explicit consent, given at the time of submission. You may withdraw that consent at any time by emailing us at the address above and we will delete your email address promptly.

Server logs are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in maintaining the security and performance of this website.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers. The only third-party services that may interact with data on this website are:

  • Hosting infrastructure — our hosting provider processes standard server logs as part of delivering the website. They act as a data processor under our instructions.
  • Email delivery — if we use a transactional email provider to send your waitlist confirmation, your email address is shared with that provider solely for that purpose.

7. Data Retention

  • Waitlist emails — retained until you withdraw consent or until the app has launched and the waitlist is no longer needed, whichever comes first.
  • Server logs — retained for up to 30 days, then deleted.

8. Security

We apply appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the limited data we hold. Waitlist emails are stored in access-controlled systems. Server logs are isolated from other services. On-device collection data never transits our infrastructure.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time (for waitlist emails)
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@horologyVault.app.

10. Children's Privacy

Our website and app are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted data to us, contact us and we will delete it immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced on this website. The date below reflects the last revision.
